What to Expect from Child & Teen Therapy
Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out.
Here are some of the most common questions parents have when getting started.
-
You can schedule a consultation by clicking the “Schedule a Consultation” button on the website or by contacting the office directly.
Phone: 813-252-1133
Email: hello@guidedpathfamily.comThe consultation is an opportunity to briefly discuss what you’re looking for and determine whether working together feels like the right next step.
-
The first session focuses on understanding what’s been going on and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy.
We’ll talk through your concerns, goals, and any relevant background to help clarify the bigger picture—and to see if this feels like the right fit.
For children, part of the session may include meeting with parents to gather additional information and discuss next steps.
-
I work with children, teens, and college students navigating anxiety, perfectionism, and emotional overwhelm—especially when these challenges intersect with ADHD, learning differences, and school pressure.
Many of the families I work with are trying to understand why a thoughtful, capable student is struggling more than expected. Together, we make sense of the patterns beneath the anxiety and build the skills and confidence needed to move forward.

Guided Path Child & Family Counseling provides in-person services in Apollo Beach, Fl, and online across Florida.
-
Yes. I offer in-person sessions in Apollo Beach as well as secure online therapy across Florida.
Some clients prefer the connection of meeting in person, while others appreciate the flexibility and convenience of virtual sessions. We can discuss which option may work best for you or your child.
-
Online therapy takes place through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Before your session, you will receive a private link that allows you to join from your computer, tablet, or phone.
Many clients find virtual therapy to be just as effective as in-person sessions, especially for anxiety and emotional regulation work.
-
Most clients begin therapy with weekly sessions. This allows us to build momentum and develop the skills and understanding needed to create meaningful change.
Over time, sessions may shift to biweekly or periodic check-ins depending on your needs and goals.
-
Session fees vary depending on the type of service provided. Current rates will be discussed during the consultation so you have a clear understanding before beginning therapy.
Payment is due at the time of the session.
-
If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, please provide at least 24 hours notice. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice may be subject to the full session fee.
This policy helps ensure that appointment times remain available for others who may need them.

Guided Path Child & Family Counseling is a private-pay practice, which allows therapy to remain more confidential, flexible, and focused on your needs rather than insurance requirements.
Insurance companies typically require therapists to provide a mental health diagnosis and treatment documentation in order to approve coverage. This information becomes part of your permanent medical record and is stored by the insurance company.
Working privately allows therapy to remain more personal and protected, without needing to share sensitive details with a third party.
Private-pay also allows us to focus on the work that is most helpful for you or your child, rather than being limited by insurance rules about session frequency, treatment methods, or diagnosis requirements.
For families seeking support for children in particular, this can provide greater flexibility and avoid placing unnecessary diagnostic labels in a child’s medical record.
If you have out-of-network benefits, I’m happy to provide documentation you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
